This sign I came across in the shopping center Lippulaiva, situated in Espoo, Finland. It states in Finnish and English that the escalator is out of order, and that repair is on the way.
What caught my attention here is the choice of words. The escalator is not broken, rather it (or they?) is just resting for a while. With the extra message of "Repair ordered" the meaning then obviously is that something is broken. But it's not so common to see anthropomorphization of escalators!
Perhaps the intended aim is to make the people hoping to use the escalator less angry or anxious? Maybe "someone just needs a little rest" feels more of an everyday event than "that damn escalator is broken again"?
