Boring Tuesdays: Parking square

This post is part of our Boring series, where one Tuesdays we sometimes post analyses on signs we did not find particularly interesting. The idea is to offset personal biases.

This is a white square that marks a place to park in the roof parking lot of a Finnish supermarket. There are several such squares, positioned in a grid. They are painted with what seems to me to be some standard Finnish "white outdoors asphalt paint".

Their meaning is both indexical and symbolic. On the one hand they index the physical position where a car should go, but on the other hand you need to know that this is what the boundary stands for. We note that the clarity of this signage will depend both on how many cars are present (enforcing its use through peer pressure) and on if the ground is covered in snow or not.
