Specific dogs in a dog sign?

This dog sign I spotted in the door of a house in Espoo, Finland, in a housing area still partially under construction. The textual part of the sign states:

BEWARE OF THE DOGS!

PLEASE ANNOUNCE YOUR ARRIVAL

The word used for "announce" here is one that, at least to me, has the connotation that anyone planning to visit should call or otherwise contact the residents beforehand. Note also the rare plural in "DOGS", not "DOG".

On the visual side we have three photographic descriptions of dogs. These are not the generic terrier-like silhouettes that we tend to see in many dog signs. Instead I got the feeling that these are the exact three dog breeds, or even the exact three dogs, that live in this house.

The sign vessel looked also quite home made with a color printed A4 paper in some plastic housing, perhaps laminated. (I wanted to keep my distance as I didn't want to risk alarming the dogs, so the image is taken from quite far.)

To me the message is curiously vague a parts. On the one hand, it is clear that they want me to call beforehand if I plan to visit. But on the other hand what is the underlying reason here? Are the big dogs dangerous or will the small one get scared? Both?
